My name is Kaj Idén and I’m a mechanical engineer in machine technology with particular focus on material technology, i.e. plastics, and their particular qualities in various applications.
1983: MSc Eng, Mechanical Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology.
1983-84: Research Assistant by the institution of Polymeric Materials, Chalmers.
1984-86: Development Manager by Polykemi AB in Ystad, Sweden.
1986-90: Developer/polymeric technician at BASF in Gothenburg, Sweden.
1990: Started my own consulting company in the plastic and vehicle industry.
A FEW COMMISSION EXAMPLES:
1992-95: Project manager at Advanced Materials A/S (AMAT) in Sandefjord, Norway. Developed plastic for offshore applications.
1995-2001: Product developer at Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) in Oxford. Assignments included the polyester soft top for the Volvo C70. Also participated in developing the Frontal Impact Protection System (FIPS), an “energy eating” honeycomb structure made from polypropylene, for the Volvo C70.
2001-05: Product developer at Volvo Motor Development in Gothenburg and Skövde, Sweden.
2005-08: Production manager at Volvo Cars in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Gent, Belgium.
2008-15: Production development of applications for the oil and energy sector.
2015-ongoing: Cost Engineering Expert - Volvo Cars.
